Solution: Pastel Mobile

Location: Staffordshire

Who they are.

Every year, Dougie Mac provides all hospice services free of charge to over 3,500 local people with life-limiting illnesses in Stoke-on-Trent, North Staffordshire and the surrounding villages; also offering supportive care for their families and carers. Following the amalgamation in March 2021 of children’s hospice The Donna Louise Trust into Dougie Mac, our care now takes place across two sites in Blurton and Trentham, as well as out in the local community.

They needed a fast, stable and well-supported phone network to connect community staff mobiles. They also wanted to partner with a reliable technology company that took an interest in their cause.

What we did.

Due to having such a large and diversified mobile estate, it became incredibly difficult to manage in-house. While on a mobile network with another partner, the community team wasn’t receiving the coverage they needed and without the necessary attention from the supplier, it became difficult to work towards a solution.

At Pastel, Dougie Mac was given a single point of ownership. This meant that they were getting the help they needed with coverage issues, as well as gaining a partner who took an interest and was keen to get involved with the hospice as a whole.

How we helped.

Since the mobiles are primarily used in a community environment, they could now receive phone calls, messages and emails wherever and whenever it was needed. Some of the connections are used for data services, running VPNs over USB devices or via mobile hotspots, which enables staff to be constantly in touch with both the data they need and the patients they care for.

Dougie Mac has found a decrease in cost by as much as 40% against their previous supplier. Steve Ledoux, Head of IT, expressed that they feel they have gained a partner who does so much more for the hospice than just supply phone connections.

Steve Ledoux, Head of IT at Dougie Mac, explains: “Over the period of our partnership, Pastel has been nominated and won several of our Business Awards that we run each year for our suppliers and donors. I have no doubt that they will become a permanent fixture at the awards, it’s always good to see them.”
